Siobhan Sellers - Her Guide To Scotch
My close friend Siobhan came to me with a few ideas when she was going out on her own in the very male dominated whisky world. She needed a logo to show her feminine view on scotch (whisky) and highlight her 15+ years working in the industry.
We went for a colour scheme of reds, copper tones and blue copper. The original sketches and prints as shown below are all part of the process, we wanted to include a whisky glass, wheat ends and a female figure.
Preliminary Sketches
It all begins with an idea. The main takeaways from our first chat regarding the logo was; feminine, whisky glass, pleated hair perhaps depicted in wheat and barley grasses. This first edition was an actual lino block print, edited on the computer.
Siobhan liked the colours I used here and the general gist but we felt it was quite busy and the female face was a little square.

Or in my case, procreate. Procreate has become a really useful tool in my studio. I love how easy it is to edit the shape and colours and play around with layers.
Siobhan preferred the softness of the lines here and how the pleat in the hair, inspired by wheat but a little more merged with the image. For me as a designer I really loved the curved line the edge of the hair toward the glass created…
I played around lots with different fonts but Siobhan liked my own handwriting using a blunt crayon - this is not the first time this has happened with a client!
Bringing it all together
Because I was able to pick out particular parts of the original logo - Siobhan can use these elements as part of her branding, whether thats on her website, flyers, business cards, the list could go on. The images can be changed depending on use but the branding is strong enough that it will shine through as recognisable to Siobhan and ‘Her Guide To Scotch’.
“Working with Roanna was a dream and I would highly recommend her for personalised business logos, prints and illustrations. Roanna designed my new business logo and I could not be happier. Roanna is so approachable and friendly but her creative mind is next level. I was able to give my loose ideas of what I wanted and she was able to turn everything effortlessly into something special and meaningful but also visually wonderful. It meant so much that she wanted to get it right for me. Amazing to work with and I would love to work with Roanna again on my next requirements.”
